Successful training event on working with interpreters in mental health

A highly successful joint-training on psychologists working with interpreters in mental health was held in London on 31 May. The event was led by Careif trustee Professor Rachel Tribe and Phil Muriel a board member of the National Register of Public Service interpreters (NRPSI) and was supported by Careif associate Emily O’Shea.

Helena El Masri also participated and led a workshop; she was representing the Association of Community Interpreters (ACIS). The event was sold out within 36 hours of being advertised and as a result of this, a future event is planned for 14 July 2023.

Careif supported the event in partnership with the British Psychological Society (BPS), the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI) and the Association of Community Interpreters (ACIS).

The event was attended by both psychologists and interpreters.

Feedback included:

  • “An extremely useful and informative workshop”

  • “I have benefitted greatly from this course”

  • “Can we make this a regular event?”
