Free training workshop for psychologists and interpreters on working in mental health

Careif is partnering with other organisations to offer a special free training workshop on 28 November for both psychologists and interpreters on working within the mental health field.

A review conducted on behalf of the World Health Organization considered language barriers as one of the main contributing factors in restricting access to mental health services for people who had migrated and had limited proficiency in the language of the new country.

This innovative event is supported by the British Psychological Society (BPS), Careif, the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI), the Association of Community Interpreters (ACIS), and Everyday Language Solutions (ELS).

Places are limited so please book early:

About the training

Both groups (psychologists and interpreters) will have an opportunity to discuss their respective roles and learn from each other. Tea and coffee will be provided, but please bring your own lunch.

This training program should improve psychologists’ knowledge, skills and the confidence required to work effectively alongside interpreters in mental health settings.

Interpreting in mental health is one of the most challenging settings for both Level 6 Public Service Interpreters and Level 3 Community Interpreters, this training will help develop the ability to work in this context.
